VOLUTE DUO™ dewaters highly concentrated municipal sludge
Background
The municipal wastewater treatment plant in Germany treats highly concentrated sludge – about 3.3 % of TS. The aim of this pilot test with a high-capacity RVP model was to process large amounts of sludge from two storage tanks on site – each containing almost 1200m3 of WAS.
AMCON’s solution
Despite the fact of being several month old, the municipal sludge was easily flocculated and dewatered. The sludge condition was desirable thanks to regular mixing and aerating systems in the storage tanks. The main purpose of this try-out was to provide the customer with a technology that would process maximum amount of sludge with regards to a good sludge dryness quality of at least 21 – 22 % TS which was ultimately exceeded. We reached a good filtrate quality with suspended solids capture rate higher than 95 %.
Throughout testing the unit performed very well with no signs of blockage in the cylinder whatsoever, no matter how much the unit was pushed towards higher performance. The maximum measured throughput ranged from 180 to 200 kg-DS/h at 25-28 % dryness.
