An innovative technology which replaces a power-hungry decanter centrifuge
Background
Our UK municipal sector distributor Evergreen Water Solutions (EWS) in cooperation with United Utilities (UU) organized a 12-month long pilot trial at the world’s oldest sewage treatment plant ‘’Daveyhulme’’ with VOLUTE™ Dewatering Press FS-402 to demonstrate significant energy savings compared to an onsite decanter centrifuge. The pilot test targeted 74 % energy efficiency using VOLUTE™ compared to centrifuges, reaching 84 % energy savings in the end, with additional process advantages to United Utilities. VOLUTE™ has an operating speed of 2.5rpm therefore vibrations are negligible compared to centrifuge technology at 3,000rpm. The centrifuge operating at 3,000rpm also creates additional odor and noise in the process room therefore an odor control system may be required with a centrifuge installation.
Through the IEEA program EWS together with UU were able to design and manufacture a “plug and play” 40ft ISO containerized VOLUTE™ dewatering plant to be demonstrated at full scale. This project showed that VOLUTE™ installment reduces the carbon footprint of large municipal bio resource sites by replacing the high-energy demanding centrifuges with VOLUTE™ dewatering press. The low energy and hands-off 24hrs operation would “free up” plant operators to complete additional tasks if installed at full scale.
