Rapid Dewatering of a Stored Sludge – Focus on High Throughput
Background
The factory has a long tradition in precious metal processing for the electrical engineering and automotive sector. This high-density chemical sludge contains a lot of metals with nearly any fibre content (0.5%). AMCON was invited to dewater about 10 – 15m3 of sludge from a storage tank which had been stored for several months. The task was to dewater it as quickly as possible, so the focus was on achieving a high throughput.
Installation Details
The VOLUTE DUO™ RVP-241 dehydrated 10 m3 of sludge in approximately 16 hours with a flow rate of 60 kg-DS/h and a dryness of more than 34%. In all tests, the flocculation was dosed only by means of an in-line mixer in the absence of the flocculation tank. The VOLUTE DUO™ with its small footprint and high flow rate met the needs of this type of plant, and therefore could soon replace other dehydration technologies typically used in the chemical industry.
