Background

This glass bottle manufacturing plant produces wastewater which, after sedimentation, generates sludge with a very high inorganic content (>80%). Additionally, the sludge contains grease that is applied to the molds in the manufacturing process. These characteristics present a challenge for sludge flocculation and dewatering. The client was nevertheless looking for a dewatering solution to reduce the volume of sludge and therefore the costs linked to disposal.

Installation details

The VOLUTE DUO™ screw press was put to the test to prove its dewatering capabilities on this greasy and inorganic sludge. The result is very positive for the customer. Cake dryness over 66% represents a reduction of more than 60% of the total volume of sludge to be disposed of and the excellent filtrate quality allows the water to be reused in the manufacturing process. The design of the VOLUTE DUO™ including a dynamic mixer offers better flocculation efficiency and also reduces polymer dosage.
