Background

This Belgian customer has a long history in activities such as sludge stabilization, soil remediation, unclogging pipes and sewers, clearing septic tanks etc. They faced a significant challenge in dewatering mud/clay which contained a high proportion of inorganics (roughly 90%), collected daily from various construction sites. Their reliance on traditional methods, primarily using gravity and time, was not producing the desired results due to the complexity and variety of mud properties. The high inorganic content in particular makes this sludge a tough one to deal with.

Installation details

The innovative sludge dewatering VOLUTE DUO™ screw press emerged as an effective answer to the challenge. Due to its contactless design, the double screw press is a great solution to dewater highly inorganic and abrasive sludge. With the client’s existing flocculant, the RVP-241 model accomplished up to 47.8% dryness and maintained a throughput of roughly 50 kg-DS/h, capturing over 95% of suspended solids at extremely low operational costs. The long lifespan and low maintenance requirements of VOLUTE DUO™ make it an apt solution for the dewatering of difficult sludge.
