Installing VOLUTE™ in a Dairy Plant in Norway
Background
The client needed to thicken its sludge but needed to make sure that the sludge would be liquid enough to be pumped to a different WWTP. However, it is still possible that a higher level of dryness will be appreciated in the future if the cake discharge process changes. Offering a thickener VOLUTE VT would not be the best to prepare the site for a potential change in cake discharge. Nevertheless, a VOLUTE FS can deliver thickened liquid sludge now and a dryer cake in the future.
Installation details
We successfully installed the FS-352 screw press. Leaving the end plate completely open and accelerating the screw motors enables the client to obtain adequate liquidness of the cake as requested. The Waste Activated Sludge inlet contains a level of 0.4% Total Solids and exits VOLUTE as a pumpable cake of 4%, delivering a reduction of 89% of the sludge volume. This new installation will significantly reduce operational costs for sludge handling on this site.
